Can you get liver pain in your back?

I've been experiencing a dull pain in my upper right back for a few weeks, and it's not going away. My wife suggested it could be related to my liver. Can you get liver pain in your back?

I was actually reading about this because my dad has right-sided back pain. It seems that liver pain is usually felt in the upper right side of the abdomen, but it can sometimes radiate to the right shoulder or back. It's quite interesting how referred pain works.

Haan beta, sometimes liver problems can cause pain that feels like it is in the back or shoulder. Please don't ignore it if you are feeling heavy on the right side. Drink plenty of fresh water and show it to a doctor in town soon.

Don't assume back pain is liver pain based on internet articles. It could be a simple muscle pull, a spine issue, or even gallstones. Skip the online guesswork and get an ultrasound and a proper physical exam done by a real doctor.

Drinking warm water with a little lemon in the morning helps detoxify the system and may relieve mild digestion-related aches. However, if the back pain is sharp or accompanied by yellowing of eyes, please rush to a hospital as it could be a liver infection.

In medical terms, we call it referred pain. The liver is covered by a capsule that, when stretched due to swelling, can stimulate nerves that travel to your right shoulder and back. If you have nausea or dark urine along with it, please see a doctor.

Any pain that radiates to your back should be evaluated by a healthcare professional immediately. It might be nothing major, but it is always better to be safe and get liver function tests and an ultrasound to rule out any gallbladder or liver issues.

Honestly, half the time I can't tell if my back hurts because of my liver, my bad posture, or just because I slept like a pretzel. But if it's a deep, persistent ache on the right side, it's probably best to stop googling and actually get it checked.

Sometimes heavy, greasy food can overload your liver and gallbladder, causing a dull ache that spreads to your back. Try eating light, boiled, plant-based meals for a couple of days and see if the discomfort reduces, but do consult a physician.
