Can you get eczema as an adult?

I always thought eczema was a childhood thing, but I've recently started developing very itchy, dry patches on my skin. My doctor suggested it could be eczema. Is it possible to get eczema as an adult, even if you never had it as a kid?

Yes, absolutely! I never had any skin issues as a kid, but suddenly at 24, I got these super dry, itchy patches on my elbows. My doctor told me adult-onset eczema is very real and often triggered by stress or changes in our environment. Moisturizing on damp skin really helped me.

Haan na, people think it only happens to small babies, but adults get it too. Actually, my husband got these red patches on his hands just last year due to constant sanitizer use. It is very annoying to manage, but using a gentle moisturizer immediately after washing hands really helps.

My son has dealt with eczema since toddlerhood, but my doctor told us that many adults also develop it for the first time. It is all about maintaining the skin barrier. Keep your surroundings dust-free, wear soft cotton clothes, and avoid heavily perfumed detergents for your laundry.

I got diagnosed with eczema at the age of 38. The most important thing is to stop taking very hot baths and switch to soap-free body washes immediately. Also, buy a good ceramide-based moisturizer and apply it twice a day without fail; it keeps the flares under control.

In our family, we always believe that skin issues start when the body gets too much heat. You can apply pure virgin coconut oil on the dry patches, as it is very cooling and safe. But since it started in adulthood, please also consult a proper doctor to see what is causing it.

Before you spend thousands on expensive luxury skin creams, please consult a dermatologist. Many basic, affordable moisturizers like liquid paraffin or white soft paraffin work much better than fancy branded ones and cost a fraction of the price. Plan your budget around doctor-prescribed medical creams instead.
