Can you get breast cancer after a double mastectomy?

My aunt had a double mastectomy for breast cancer many years ago. She is now experiencing some unusual symptoms and is very anxious. Can you get breast cancer again even after having a double mastectomy?

My doctor explained that even after a double mastectomy, a tiny amount of breast tissue can remain behind. While the risk becomes extremely low, regular follow-ups with your oncologist are still very important.

Yes, it is rare but possible because surgeons cannot remove 100% of the microscopic breast cells. Just make sure to continue your regular chest wall examinations as advised by your medical team.

While the recurrence risk drops significantly, keeping up with active lifestyle habits like daily walking is great for overall recovery. Always discuss your physical limits with your doctor first.

Just when you think you've cleared the exams, life throws another surprise! Yes, there is still a tiny risk of recurrence, so we can't completely skip those regular hospital visits, unfortunately.

Yes, it can happen in the remaining chest wall tissue. I highly recommend going to a good cancer care center and asking your oncologist clearly about your specific long-term screening plan.

I recently had my surgery and I keep worrying about the cancer coming back in the scar area. Has anyone else felt this constant anxiety during their recovery phase?

I used to panic thinking the cancer would return on the chest wall even after my surgery. But my doctor reassured me that the risk is incredibly low, and regular checkups are just a safety net to keep us safe.
