Can you get arthritis in your muscles?

I've been experiencing widespread muscle aches and stiffness all over my body for weeks now. A friend suggested it might be a form of arthritis. Can arthritis actually affect your muscles, or is it only about joints?

No, arthritis only happens in the bone joints, not in the muscles. However, joint arthritis can cause surrounding muscles to feel very tight and sore.

Actually, arthritis is strictly a joint problem, but I totally understand why you ask because the muscle pain around a bad joint can feel so intense. When my mom's knee arthritis flares up, her calf muscles get super stiff too.

I used to worry so much that my muscle aches were some form of muscle arthritis! But yes, doctors say arthritis only affects joints, though the muscle tension around them is very real. Don't worry, a checkup will ease your mind.

True, arthritis itself is for joints, but muscle pain can be a secondary symptom. A doctor can help clarify if it is fibromyalgia or joint-related muscle spasms.

I was just reading up on this yesterday. Technically, arthritis is only inflammation of the joints. If your muscles are hurting, it might be due to strain, vitamin D deficiency, or something else entirely. Best to ask a doc.

I know arthritis is for joints, but my muscles feel so weak and sore near my shoulders. Has anyone else felt this kind of radiating muscle pain along with joint stiffness?

Arthritis is limited to the joints, but conditions like polymyalgia rheumatica can cause muscle pain and stiffness. It is always safer to get a comprehensive blood test and clinical examination done by a physician.
