Can you get a sore throat from vomiting?

Last night, I had a really bad bout of vomiting because of some food poisoning. Now, my throat feels very sore and scratchy, almost like I have a cold. Could the vomiting have caused this sore throat, or is it something else?

Oh absolutely. Spent the whole of last night throwing up some bad street food and now my throat feels like it was cleaned with sandpaper. It is just the stomach acid doing its magic, honestly. Warm water is my only best friend today.

Look, stomach acid is very strong and it burns the throat lining when you throw up. No need to panic, it goes away in a day or two. Just do warm salt water gargles twice a day and stay away from cold drinks.

Haan, bilkul ho sakta hai. Vomit ke sath stomach acid bahar aata hai na, toh poora gala chhil jata hai. Just drink some warm warm water and avoid anything spicy for a day. Thoda rest karo, dubaara ulti ho toh check up kara lena.

It definitely happens due to the acidity of the vomit. While recovering, I usually stick to clean, easy-to-digest liquid foods and avoid my heavy lifting routines. Once the throat feels better and my energy is back, I slowly get back to my normal workout routine.

I was actually reading about this yesterday. The stomach acid is highly acidic, so when it travels up during vomiting, it easily irritates the sensitive lining of your throat. That is why it burns and feels raw afterwards. It is quite common but very irritating.

Yes, the acid causes a lot of irritation there. When this happened to me, I avoided my intense gym sessions and just went for light walks to keep active without straining my body. Make sure you hydrate properly before trying any light exercise, and rest if your doctor suggests.
