Can you get a partial liver transplant?

Someone in our family needs a liver transplant, and we are trying to find out all the options available. My cousin mentioned something about a 'partial' transplant, where a living donor gives a part of their liver. Is this procedure really possible and common here?

Yes, absolutely. In fact, most living donor transplants are partial because they only take a piece of the donor's liver. The donor has to be in top physical shape, with healthy body fat levels and no major health issues, to ensure a fast recovery.

Haan na, partial transplant toh kaafi standard ho gaya hai aajkal. My neighbor donated a part of her liver to her father, and both are completely fit now. God has made the liver so unique that it grows back, ho na!

Yes, partial transplant is very successful because the liver regenerates. Make sure you check the legal donor criteria in your state.

Yes, you can! The liver is like that one classmate who always does extra credit—it actually grows back on its own. Pretty cool tech built into our bodies, though the surgery itself is no joke.

Yes, living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is a standard procedure now. The liver regenerates back to nearly its original size within 8-12 weeks for both the donor and the patient. You can monitor the recovery progress through regular liver function tests.

I know how terrifying it feels when doctors talk about liver transplant, your mind just goes into worst-case scenarios. But partial transplants are actually very common and have great success rates. Take a deep breath, you will get through this.

My friend's mother had a partial liver transplant last year where her brother was the donor. It was amazing how well they both recovered. Just make sure you choose a hospital with a really good post-op care team.

Yes, this is very common, especially when parents donate a part of their liver to their children who have biliary issues. We went through a similar consultation for our nephew. The doctors explain the whole regeneration process beautifully to keep you calm.
