Can you get a new liver?

My uncle is having some serious liver issues, and his doctor mentioned that he might need advanced treatment. I've heard about people getting 'new livers,' but I don't really understand how that works. Is it actually possible to replace a damaged liver?

A liver transplant is a massive major surgery, not some simple procedure you can just decide on. You have to be evaluated by a multi-disciplinary transplant board. Don't trust any clinics promising to 'regrow' your liver with alternative medicines if it is already failing.

Haan na, transplant ho sakta hai if the liver is totally damaged. My uncle got a portion of his liver from his son and now both are doing so well. It is a big operation but medical science has advanced a lot now, ho na.

Yes, you can get a liver transplant from a living or deceased donor, but the medical criteria are very strict. You need to get detailed blood tests and imaging done to see if the patient is healthy enough to tolerate the surgery. Always consult a top gastroenterologist first.

Is anyone else in the process of matching a donor for a family member? We are currently doing the tests and I am so anxious about the matching process and the risks involved for the donor. Please share your experiences if you can.

Haan bilkul, liver transplant toh ab kafi saare bade sheheron mein hone laga hai. Bas donor milna thoda mushkil hota hai aur kharcha bhi kafi aata hai, na. Government hospitals mein bhi lines hoti hain par wahan treatment sasta hota hai.

I was reading about this recently. The cool thing about the liver is that it can actually regenerate! So even if you get a partial liver from a living donor, both the donor's and recipient's livers grow back to normal size in a few months.

Look, if the liver is completely non-functional, then a transplant is the only way out. Don't waste time wandering around. Go straight to a big hospital like Medanta or Apollo and ask their transplant team about the legal process for donors.

Yes, liver transplant is very much possible nowadays in India. Please stay strong and consult a good hospital. Many people live a long, healthy life after the surgery.
