Can you get a liver transplant if you have cancer?

My brother-in-law has liver cancer, and we are looking into all possible treatment options. Someone mentioned liver transplant, but I'm unsure if that's even an option when cancer is involved. Is it possible to get one in such a situation?

Cancer is a heavy disease, beta. A transplant is possible in some cases like early-stage localized liver cancer, but you must follow whatever the oncology team says. Home remedies like fresh papaya leaf juice or light herbal teas can only help with appetite, but don't do anything without asking your main specialist first.

Actually, it depends entirely on the size of the tumor and whether it has spread outside the liver. If it meets the standard criteria, a transplant is done, but the evaluation process takes a lot of time. Best to book an appointment with a transplant coordinator at a major hospital immediately to save time.

Yes, if it is Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) and meets the Milan criteria, you can get a transplant. But if the cancer has metastasized to other organs, they won't perform it because of the immunosuppressant drugs you have to take after. Get a clear staging PET scan done first.

Transplant cost itself is very high, around 15 to 25 lakhs in private hospitals, plus the pre-transplant workup, CT scans, and cancer staging tests add up to another lakh or two. If you are planning this, check with government schemes or check if your corporate insurance covers organ transplants for cancer cases.

My uncle is going through a similar health scare and we are all so worried. Is the transplant process really complex when there is a tumor? If anyone here has gone through this, please tell me how long the waitlist generally is in India, we are panicking a lot.
