Can you get a heart attack at 14?

My nephew, who is 14, had a sudden chest pain scare, and it got me really worried. I know heart attacks usually happen to older people, but can someone as young as 14 actually have a heart attack?

Bro, my sleep cycle is so broken I sometimes worry about my heart too, but at 14? That is extremely rare unless there is some severe genetic heart issue. If you are feeling chest pain, it's probably just gas or muscle strain from gaming too long, but don't ignore it if it's bad.

A myocardial infarction at the age of 14 is exceptionally rare and usually linked to underlying anatomical anomalies or genetic conditions rather than typical lifestyle factors. However, any chest pain or difficulty in breathing must not be self-diagnosed. Please consult a qualified doctor for a professional assessment.

As a mother, this sounds very concerning. While a heart attack at 14 is highly unusual, congenital heart conditions or severe arrhythmias can sometimes mimic these symptoms. If your child is complaining of chest tightness, breathlessness, or dizziness, please take them to a pediatric cardiologist immediately for a proper ECG.

I researched this when my teenage cousin had chest pains. The doctor told us that classic heart attacks from blocked arteries are rare in teens, but conditions like myocarditis (heart muscle inflammation) or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can occur. You must get an echocardiogram done to rule out any congenital issues.

Please do not take chest discomfort lightly. Years ago, I ignored a shooting pain in my arm thinking it was just fatigue, and it turned out to be a serious issue. Even if the person is only 14, if they are showing symptoms like chest pain, sweating, or fainting, rush them to the hospital immediately.
