Can you feel your kidney hurt?

I've been experiencing a dull ache in my lower back, on both sides. Sometimes people say it could be kidney pain, but I'm not sure how that feels. Can you actually feel your kidneys hurt, and if so, what does it feel like?

Yes, kidney pain is typically felt as a dull, constant ache deep in your flank or lower back, often on one side. However, it can easily be confused with muscle spasms, so a proper medical diagnosis with a urine test and ultrasound is highly recommended.

I ignored a dull ache in my side for weeks, thinking it was a simple muscle pull, until it turned into a massive kidney stone blockage. Please do not make my mistake—get a proper scan done if the pain lasts more than two days.

I had a kidney infection ten years ago, beta, and the pain is quite high up in the back, just under the ribs, often with fever. Do not worry too much, but don't ignore it either. Go to a hospital and get a simple urine routine check done.

I absolutely panicked last month thinking my kidneys were failing because of a sharp side ache. It turned out to be just heavy gas and dehydration! Drinking plenty of water solved it, so don't jump to scary conclusions immediately.

Oh, if it is a kidney stone, you will definitely feel it—it will make you dance without any music! But jokes apart, if it's just a mild catch from sleeping weirdly, don't start writing your will just yet. Just drink some water and see.

As a diabetic, I am always extremely cautious about any back or side pain, because kidneys are highly vulnerable to high blood sugar. Please ensure you monitor your glucose levels and seek immediate advice from a nephrologist if you feel any persistent ache.

I get so terrified every time my lower back hurts, immediately Googling kidney disease. It usually is just posture, but the anxiety is so real. Try to take deep breaths, avoid reading horror stories online, and consult a doc to stay calm.

In my experience, gentle stretching and deep breathing can help differentiate between muscular stiffness and organ discomfort. Keep your body well-hydrated, but if the pain is severe and deep, please let a medical expert guide you.

Yes, kidney pain is usually felt higher up in the back than normal backaches, and getting a renal ultrasound is the safest way to confirm.

Sometimes muscle soreness from heavy lifting or a long walk can feel like deep back pain. However, if the discomfort is deep inside and doesn't change when you stretch, avoid heavy exercise and check with a doctor first.
