Can you feel cavities with your tongue?

Lately, noticed a strange rough spot on one of my back teeth when I run my tongue over it. It feels a bit like a hole. Wondering if it's possible to actually feel a cavity forming with your tongue before it gets worse?

I totally get it, that constant urge to run your tongue over a sharp or hollow spot in your tooth is so annoying! I had a tiny hole in my molar last year that felt like a huge crater to my tongue. It is best to visit a dentist before it starts aching badly.

Every time I feel a tiny gap in my teeth with my tongue, I start panicking that my whole tooth is rotting from inside. It makes me so anxious that I can't focus on anything else. If you are feeling stressed like me, just go to the clinic; the dentist will fix it in ten minutes and you will feel so much relief.

I ignored a tiny rough spot my tongue kept feeling for almost six months because it didn't hurt. By the time I finally went to the dentist, the decay had reached the nerve and I had to get a painful root canal. Please go get a simple filling done now and save yourself the trouble.

Don't try cleaning it out with toothpicks or trying home remedies like clove oil to melt the decay away. If your tongue is feeling a hole, it means the tooth structure is already compromised. Go to a qualified dentist and get a proper medical filling done.

I was actually wondering about this too because my tongue keeps hitting a weird sharp edge behind my upper teeth. Apparently, our tongues are super sensitive, so even a tiny scratch or chip feels massive. I guess I'll have to book an appointment to find out what it really is.

Haan, same here! I had this exact thing last month where my tongue felt a rough patch, and it turned out to be a tiny cavity starting on the side. The dentist cleaned it up quickly, and now it feels smooth again. Don't worry, it is a very common issue and easy to fix.

Yes, you can often feel a rough edge, a pit, or a gap with your tongue when enamel decays. However, only a dentist can tell if it's a cavity or just tartar buildup using proper dental mirrors and X-rays. A quick dental checkup is the best way to address this safely.
