Can you faint from asthma?

Have asthma, and sometimes during a bad attack, I feel extremely lightheaded and short of breath. My friend told me that it's possible to faint if an asthma attack is severe enough. Is this true, can asthma really cause someone to faint?

Yes, a severe asthma attack can reduce oxygen flow to the brain, which can cause fainting. This is a critical medical situation. If you or someone you know is experiencing this, please skip home remedies and go straight to an emergency room.

Lack of oxygen during heavy wheezing can definitely make you black out. Do not try to push through it or do any workouts. Focus entirely on recovery, use your inhaler as prescribed, and only resume light walks after getting your doctor's clearance.

I once ignored a bad asthma flare-up and ended up collapsing at home because my oxygen levels dropped drastically. It was a huge lesson for me. Please do not wait around; seek immediate medical attention if your breathing is causing dizziness or fainting.

Please keep your mind calm and stay positive, but do not ignore this symptom. Fainting due to breathing trouble is a sign that the body needs immediate professional care. Take deep, slow breaths if possible, keep your inhaler close, and let a doctor help you heal.

Fainting from asthma is a serious red flag meaning your brain isn't getting enough oxygen. Don't play around with this. Get yourself to a hospital or see a pulmonologist immediately to get your asthma plan adjusted.
