Can you eat before a liver ultrasound?

I have a liver ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow morning. Should I avoid eating anything before the scan, or is it okay to have a light breakfast?

No, you usually need to fast for 6 to 8 hours before a liver ultrasound so the doctor can get a clear view of your gallbladder and organs.

I literally had my abdominal ultrasound last week for some digestive issues. The lab strictly told me not to eat or drink anything other than water for 6 hours before. If you eat, your gallbladder contracts and they can't see the liver clearly.

I have a liver ultrasound scheduled for next Tuesday and I am so nervous about fasting for so many hours in the morning. Did anyone else feel really dizzy or weak during this wait, or is it manageable? I'd appreciate any tips.

Beta, you must remain empty stomach for at least 6 hours before the ultrasound, otherwise the reports will not come out clear. Once you are done, you can have a warm cup of light herbal tea or coconut water to soothe your stomach. Listen to the lab doctor's advice carefully.

Hamein toh doctor ne saaf mana kiya tha ultrasound se pehle kuch bhi khane se. Agar aapko pet mein zyada dard ya koi badi takleef hai, toh khud se ghar pe ilaaj mat kariye aur sidha achhe doctor ko dikhaiye.

Fasting for 6-8 hours before a liver ultrasound is standard protocol. I usually plan my workouts around such tests to make sure I don't feel too depleted, but on test day, just rest. After the scan, a light walk and a balanced meal will get your energy back.
