Can you die of asthma in your sleep?

I have asthma and sometimes my attacks are quite bad at night. I always worry about sleeping; can you die of asthma in your sleep if an attack gets really severe?

Hey, don't stress too much about this. Yes, severe asthma attacks at night can be dangerous, but if you keep your rescue inhaler right next to your bed, you are mostly very safe. Just make sure you take your daily preventer inhalers regularly too.

Asthma can become dangerous at night when cortisol levels drop, potentially causing severe attacks. Just like I manage my high blood pressure with regular checkups and lifestyle tracking, you must keep your asthma under control with proper daily meds. Please don't neglect it.

I once ignored a worsening wheezing cough at night and ended up in the emergency room struggling to breathe. It was a huge wake-up call. Please get a proper checkup and a preventative asthma plan from your doctor before it gets serious.

I totally get it, waking up struggling to breathe is one of the scariest feelings in the world. It is true that severe attacks can be fatal, which is why having an action plan is so important. Please keep your inhaler on your nightstand and consult your doctor for peace of mind.

It is so hard physically and emotionally to live with the fear of a nighttime asthma attack. That feeling of chest tightness makes you feel so vulnerable. Please know your feelings are valid, and getting your doctor to adjust your preventer dose can really help you sleep easier.

Yes, severe asthma attacks at night can indeed be life-threatening if ignored. Always keep your inhaler close by and see a doctor if your wheezing increases.

I often wake up in the middle of the night feeling very tight in my chest and it makes me so scared that I won't be able to breathe. Has anyone else felt this same panic? I'm planning to see a specialist soon to get it checked.

I've dealt with nighttime asthma for 15 years. The secret is keeping your bedroom completely dust-free, using allergen-proof mattress covers, and never skipping your evening preventer dose. If you still wake up gasping, your current treatment needs to be updated by your doctor.
