Can you develop asthma after covid?

My cousin had a severe case of Covid last year, and ever since then, she's been struggling with her breathing and a constant cough. Could the virus have caused her to develop asthma, or is it just lingering effects?

Yes, many people have reported developing asthma or reactive airway disease post-COVID. If you are struggling with a lingering cough or wheezing, don't waste time waiting for it to clear up on its own. Book a quick appointment with a pulmonologist so you can get the right inhaler and get back to work without issues.

Having PCOS has made me very aware of how systemic inflammation can trigger other health issues in the body. COVID-19 causes significant inflammation in the respiratory tract, which can indeed lead to asthma-like symptoms or actual asthma. Please be gentle with yourself and consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

I personally never had any breathing issues until I got COVID in 2021. After recovering, I had a persistent dry cough and tightness in my chest that turned out to be asthma, and my doctor started me on a daily inhaler. It made a huge difference, so I highly recommend getting your lungs checked.

I tried all kinds of herbal kadas and steam inhalation for my chest tightness after COVID, and while they provided temporary comfort, the wheezing didn't stop. I finally went to a lung specialist who diagnosed me with asthma and gave me an inhaler. Home remedies are good for minor relief, but please see a doctor for proper treatment.

My son developed a persistent wheeze and shortness of breath after recovering from COVID last year, which the pediatrician diagnosed as post-viral asthma. It was scary at first, but with a regular pediatric pulmonologist's guidance and the right inhaler, he is doing great now. Please don't hesitate to get your lungs evaluated.
