Can you catch malaria from another person?

Monsoon season is coming, and there are always talks about malaria cases increasing. My neighbour just got diagnosed, and I'm really worried about my kids. I know mosquitoes spread it, but can one person directly give malaria to another, like through touch or sharing things?

I completely understand the anxiety around this, especially when someone close to you is sick and you are terrified of getting it too. When my roommate had severe malaria, I was constantly panicking about catching it. Knowing that it doesn't spread through coughing, hugging, or sharing food really helped ease my mind. Stay strong and help them recover.

Quick answer is no, you cannot catch malaria directly from another person like a cold or flu. It absolutely needs an infected female Anopheles mosquito to bite you to transmit the parasite. So don't worry about sitting next to someone who has malaria, just focus on keeping mosquitoes away with good sprays and nets!

You can't catch malaria directly from another person, but please don't take the illness itself lightly. I had severe malaria complications a few years ago because I delayed treatment, thinking it was just a normal fever. If you or anyone you know has high fever with shivering, please go see a doctor immediately for a blood test.

Good news! You definitely cannot catch malaria from another person by hanging out with them. 🦟 Only mosquito bites can transfer the parasite. So keep your windows closed in the evening, use your repellent, and stay happy and healthy! 😊

I have thyroid issues so I'm always checking my blood reports and visiting my doctor regularly. Regarding malaria, it only spreads via mosquito bites and not from direct human contact. If someone in your house is sick, just focus on helping them get their routine blood tests and doctor follow-ups done properly so they recover fast.

As someone managing diabetes, I always have to be very careful with my immunity and health. Fortunately, malaria is not contagious from person to person, so you don't have to isolate from a family member who has it. Just make sure there is no stagnant water around your house to prevent breeding, and consult a doctor if anyone shows symptoms.
