Can you call out of work for a migraine?

Severe migraines often hit me, and when they do, I can barely function. My boss sometimes implies they aren't 'real' sick days. Can you legitimately call out of work if you're experiencing a migraine?

Yes, absolutely. A migraine is a neurological condition, not just a simple headache, and trying to stare at a screen will only worsen it. Take the day off, rest in a dark, quiet room, and take your prescribed medication early.

I completely agree, you should take leave. Straining your eyes at work will only prolong the migraine attack.

Yes, you definitely can and should take a sick day. Please prioritize your health, turn off your phone, and get some deep sleep.

I've dealt with chronic migraines for years and trying to push through work is a terrible idea. Call in sick immediately, put a cold pack on your forehead, and stay offline. Most workplaces are understanding if you are clear about your condition.

I always worry my manager will think I'm making excuses, which makes my head hurt even more! But honestly, safety and health come first. You really can't work properly during a migraine anyway, so please don't feel guilty about taking sick leave.

I totally get it, the throbbing pain and nausea make even looking at a phone screen impossible. It's completely valid to call out of work for this. Just send a quick email to your team, put your phone on silent, and rest up.

I know how stressful it is to feel like you're letting your team down, and that anxiety only triggers more head pain. Please validate your pain; a migraine is highly debilitating. Take the day off guilt-free and focus entirely on recovery.

You must take rest because your brain needs quiet to recover. Applying a little ginger paste on your forehead or drinking ginger tea can help with the nausea naturally. But if these migraines are happening every week, please consult a specialist.

I once forced myself to finish a project during a severe migraine and ended up fainting at my desk. Don't make that mistake; your body is giving you a clear warning. If you get these often, please get a proper medical checkup instead of self-medicating.

In my experience, trying to work through a migraine just makes it last for three days instead of one. I always inform my team early, take my prescribed pill, and sleep it off. It's the only way that works for me.
