Can you break a fever by sweating it out?

My grandmother always used to say that if you have a fever, you should cover yourself with blankets and sweat it out to break it. I've been feeling feverish since yesterday. Does this home remedy actually work, or is it an old wives' tale?

Actually wrapping yourself in heavy blankets to sweat it out just raises your core temperature, which is risky. A much better and practical way is to do warm water sponging on your forehead and neck. It cools down the body safely without causing heat strokes.

I used to do this blanket trick and ended up severely dehydrated once. Sweating is just a sign that your fever is naturally breaking, not the cause of it breaking. Drink plenty of ORS or coconut water to stay hydrated instead of forcing yourself to sweat.

Forcing yourself to sweat won't cure the underlying infection. It's much better to support your immune system with light khichdi and warm vegetable soups. Keep your body hydrated with tulsi water and let the fever run its course naturally.

No, you can't break a fever by sweating. Don't trap heat by covering up in layers; that's old school and honestly quite dangerous. Wear light clothes, turn on the fan, and take paracetamol if it goes beyond 100 degrees.

The medical consensus is that sweating it out is mostly a myth. While sweating occurs when the brain resets your body's thermostat, forcing sweat with thick clothes can cause dangerous overheating. If the fever is high, please consult a doctor for proper fever reducers.

I agree with others that forcing sweating is not safe. Try keeping your room well-ventilated and take plenty of bed rest to help your body heal.

Just got over a bad viral fever last week and tried staying under two blankets to sweat. Honestly, it only made me super dizzy and weak. The doctor told me to stay in a comfortable, cool room and drink lots of fluids instead.

Fever is just the body's way of cleansing and fighting off unwanted guests. Instead of forcing physical stress like heavy sweating, sit in quiet meditation, drink warm water, and let your body recover in peace. Positive thoughts can work wonders for healing.

Don't play around with high fevers. I once ignored a rising fever thinking I would just sweat it out overnight, and ended up in the hospital with severe dengue. If the fever doesn't come down in 24 hours, get your blood tests done.

I always worry about how physical stress affects my hormones, so I'm very cautious with viral fevers. Sweating it out might just exhaust your body even more. It's safer to stick to your doc's prescription and rest without forcing any home remedies.
