Can you be skinny and have type 2 diabetes?

I'm relatively thin and try to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but I've been experiencing increased thirst and fatigue. I'm worried about diabetes. Is it possible for someone to be skinny and still develop Type 2 diabetes?

Yes, absolutely. Genetics and visceral fat around organs play a major role in Type 2 diabetes, regardless of your outer appearance. If you have a family history, save some time and get an HbA1c test done during your annual company checkup.

I went to Max Hospital last month and the specialist explained that being thin doesn't make you immune to Type 2 diabetes. It's often due to high stress, poor sleep, or genetic factors. Go to a good endocrinologist and get a clear picture of your insulin levels.

In our family, we are all quite lean, but my elder brother got diagnosed with Type 2 last year. My mother suggested some traditional herbs, but we consulted our family doctor who started him on proper medication. Lean diabetes is actually quite common in India.

I am quite underweight but my last blood test showed a borderline high sugar level. Has anyone else felt totally shocked and anxious after finding this out? I always thought diabetes only happens to people who are overweight.

Do not let fear cloud your mind. The body is a complex system and sometimes its balance gets disturbed regardless of our physical frame. Eat pure food, keep a peaceful mind, and consult a doctor to help restore your body's natural harmony.

I ignored my constant thirst and frequent urination for months because I was always a skinny guy and thought 'how can I get diabetes?' I regret that delay so much now as it affected my kidneys. Please don't ignore the warning signs, go get checked today.

Yes, you can. It's called 'lean diabetes' and is often related to genetics, so a simple blood test is the best way to confirm.
