Can you be drafted if you have mental health issues?

My friend has been struggling with depression and anxiety for a while now. He's concerned about future employment and military service. Can you be drafted if you have mental health issues?

Beta, man ki shanti sabse badi cheez hoti hai. Fauj ka kaam bohot tanaav wala hota hai, isiliye wahan dimagi sehat ka bohot dhayan rakhte hain. Agar koi pareshati hai toh pehle khud ko theek karo, baki sab baad me dekhna.

In my younger days, we didn't talk much about mental health, but the military has always been very strict about fitness of both mind and body. If there is a history of clinical depression or anxiety, they generally do not select you for duty. It is for your own safety and the safety of your fellow soldiers.

Practically speaking, military selection boards have rigorous psychological evaluations. Any documented history of serious mental health issues is a major red flag and usually leads to disqualification. Focus on your recovery and career paths that offer a better work-life balance.

No, they generally disqualify you if there is a documented history. Your mental peace is way more important, so focus on taking care of yourself.

I completely understand how disappointing this can feel if it was your dream. I have struggled with severe anxiety myself, and honestly, even daily office stress can feel like too much sometimes. Please don't beat yourself up; taking care of your mental well-being is much more important than trying to force yourself into a high-pressure role.

While regular meditation and pranayama help a lot with daily stress and mild anxiety, clinical conditions need proper medical care. The military environment is extremely stressful and not suitable if you are already struggling. Please consult a qualified psychiatrist to get the right treatment first.
