Can xylitol reverse cavities?

I've heard some natural health enthusiasts claim that xylitol can actually help reverse cavities. Is there any scientific basis for this, or is it just a myth?

Hey, don't stress too much about it! Xylitol is great for keeping your mouth clean and stopping new cavities from forming, but it can't magically fill up an existing hole. You'll still need to visit the dentist for a proper cleanup and filling.

Xylitol helps lower mouth acidity, which is great for overall dental hygiene, but it won't reverse structural tooth decay. Just like you can't undo a muscle tear without proper recovery, you can't fix a cavity without a dentist. Keep brushing and eating clean!

At my age, I can tell you that only a dentist's drill can 'reverse' a real cavity! Xylitol is nice to have in your chewing gum, but don't expect it to do a doctor's job. Save your energy and get a proper dental checkup.

I was endlessly reading about this online because I have this tiny black spot on my tooth and was too scared of the dentist. From what I found, xylitol only helps with very early enamel surface repair, not actual cavities. I think we both just need to face our fears and book a dentist appointment.

No, xylitol cannot reverse established cavities. It only helps prevent new decay, so you still need to see a dentist for fillings.
