Can vitamins cause kidney stones?

My friend recently developed kidney stones, and he blames his vitamin supplements. I take a daily multivitamin myself, so I'm a bit worried. Can taking regular vitamins increase the risk of getting kidney stones?

Bro, don't stress too much! Unless you are gulping down calcium tablets like mints, normal vitamins won't cause stones. Just drink your daily 3 liters of water and you are totally sorted.

Excess calcium and very high doses of Vitamin C can sometimes crystallize in the kidneys. In our clinic, we always advise patients to take these with plenty of water and never exceed the daily recommended allowance.

Please be very careful. I took heavy calcium supplements without checking with a doctor and ended up with a painful 6mm kidney stone that required medical intervention. Get an ultrasound done if you feel any side pain.

I completely understand how scary it is to worry about kidney stone pain, even the thought makes me so anxious. But standard multivitamins are usually in very safe limits, so don't let the anxiety take over.

When I go for my yearly checkup at Apollo, my doctor always emphasizes that we should not take unprescribed supplements. It is best to consult your physician and get a clear prescription based on your blood reports.
