Can urinary tract infection affect pregnancy test?

I've been having some burning during urination, so I might have a UTI. At the same time, my period is late. If I take a pregnancy test, will a urinary tract infection give a false result or affect its accuracy?

I know how stressful it is when you are waiting for a clear result and dealing with a painful UTI at the same time. Actually, a UTI won't cause a false positive because pregnancy tests only look for the hCG hormone, not bacteria, but the stress of it all is definitely hard to handle.

Hey, don't worry! From what I read, a UTI shouldn't affect your pregnancy test results at all because the kits look for a totally different hormone. But u should definitely get that UTI treated by a doc because those things can pain a lot.

No, a UTI won't mess with your pregnancy test kit since it only detects hCG. Don't waste money buying multiple expensive test kits thinking the infection ruined the result; just buy one basic kit and focus your budget on getting a urine routine test done for the infection.

Do not rely on random online forums telling you that your positive or negative test was because of a UTI. Go to a proper clinic, get a blood hCG test done to confirm pregnancy, and get a urine culture to treat the infection safely.

My daughter had a severe UTI and was worried her pregnancy test would show wrong results. The doctor clearly told us that infections do not change the hCG levels in urine, so the test is still accurate. Please drink lots of water and see a gynecologist for the infection.
