Can urinalysis detect kidney stones?

I get kidney stones frequently, and I often feel discomfort. My doctor usually asks for a urine test as part of the check-up. Can a regular urinalysis really detect if I have kidney stones, or is it just an indicator for other issues?

Urinalysis won't show the physical stone itself, but it catches microscopic blood or crystals that point towards stones. You will ultimately need an ultrasound or a CT scan to be 100% sure about the size and location.

Ah, kidney stones, the absolute joy of getting older! A urine test can show if there's blood or high calcium crystals, basically hinting that a stone is busy causing trouble inside. But to find out if it is a pebble or a mountain, you need a scan.

Yes, the test will check for RBCs and crystals which are classic indicators of stones. Since I manage high BP, my doctor always keeps a check on my kidney urine reports to ensure no extra strain is happening on the system.

I ignored mild back pain and blood in my urine for weeks thinking it was just heat. When the stone finally blocked my tract, I had to rush to emergency. Please get the urine test and an ultrasound done immediately if you suspect stones.

While a urine test indicates crystallization in the body, it is always wise to consult your physician. In my years, I have seen that keeping the body alkaline with proper water intake and gentle yoga helps maintain overall urinary health.

Hello beta. Yes, a urinalysis is the starting point because stones scrape the lining and cause tiny amounts of blood to show up in the test, even if you can't see it. Do get it done, and make sure to show it to a proper doctor soon.

A urine test will tell you if there is an active infection or bleeding from stones, which is very helpful. Along with whatever doctor says, drinking barley water (jau ka pani) has really helped reduce the burning sensation for many in my family.

It won't give you a picture of the stone to frame, but it acts like a detective finding 'clues' like microscopic blood or calcium crystals. It is a super easy first step before you go for the big imaging machines.
