Can urgent care help with tooth pain?

My tooth pain has become unbearable, and my regular dental clinic is closed for the weekend. I'm wondering if going to an urgent care center is a good idea. Can they actually offer some relief or a temporary solution for severe dental pain?

Urgent care won't have a dentist to actually fix a cavity or do a root canal, so don't expect a permanent solution. But if you are in severe pain during office hours, they can prescribe painkillers to help you get through your day until you see a dentist.

When my daughter had terrible tooth pain late at night, the local clinic was a lifesaver. They couldn't do dental work, but they checked for swelling and gave her a safe pediatric painkiller. It helped her sleep before we saw our regular dentist the next morning.

Look, they don't have dental chairs there to pull your tooth out. They will only give you some pain relief tablets or antibiotics if there's swelling. Don't sit on it for days, just book a proper dentist appointment directly.

Currently awake at 4 AM because of a wisdom tooth, so I know the struggle. Urgent care can basically give you the good meds to stop the throbbing so you can finally close your eyes. Don't expect them to do any actual dental magic though.

According to my family dentist, urgent care clinics can only provide palliative care for dental issues. They can prescribe analgesics or penicillin-type antibiotics for abscesses to prevent the spread, but they do not perform restorative work like fillings or extractions.

Hey, don't worry too much. If the pain is unbearable right now, definitely go to urgent care. They will give you something to ease the pain and check if there's an infection, so you can rest comfortably tonight. Just make sure to see a dentist tomorrow.

For temporary relief at home, you can press a clove gently near the aching tooth, it helps numb the area. But if the pain is very severe, go to a clinic. They can give proper medicine to control the swelling before you see your dentist.
