Can ulcerative colitis cause cancer?

My sister has been dealing with Ulcerative Colitis for a few years now, and we recently heard something about it potentially increasing cancer risk. This has really scared us. Can this condition actually lead to cancer?

There is an increased risk of colon cancer in patients who have had extensive ulcerative colitis for many years. However, this risk can be managed through regular colonoscopy screenings and proper medical treatment. Please ensure you stay in regular touch with your gastroenterologist to monitor your colon health safely.

I know how terrifying it is to read about cancer risks online, I literally lose sleep over this stuff every night. But doctors reassure us that if you take your medicines regularly and do your colonoscopies on time, the risk is actually very manageable. Try not to stress too much and just focus on keeping your inflammation low.

Yes, long-term ulcerative colitis can increase the risk of colon cancer, but regular screenings help prevent it. Please consult your doctor for proper guidance.

Please don't skip your doctor visits or ignore your symptoms like I did during my early diagnosis years. Long-term untreated inflammation does increase the risk of serious complications, including cancer. Getting regular checkups and keeping the disease in remission is the absolute best way to stay safe.

I completely understand why you're worried about this, but please don't panic. While there is a link if the disease is active for over 8-10 years, most people with UC never get cancer. Keeping up with your treatments and eating a gut-friendly diet really helps keep things under control.

Haan, thoda risk toh hota hai agar colitis bohot purana ho jaye, par darna nahi hai na. Aajkal toh doctors regular colonoscopy karke pehle hi check kar lete hain agar koi issue ho. Bas apni dawai time pe khao aur checkups miss mat karo.
