Can u join the military with asthma?

I'm planning to join the military after graduation, but I had childhood asthma. It's been years since I had an attack. Will I be able to join the military even though I had asthma in the past?

Please be very honest about this in your medical exams. I ignored my mild wheezing during college sports thinking it was nothing, and ended up having a severe attack during a trek. The military training is extremely intense, and hiding asthma can be very dangerous for your life.

Look, the Indian Armed Forces medical standards are very strict. Generally, active asthma is a ground for rejection because of the high-altitude postings and extreme weather. If you haven't had symptoms or used an inhaler for many years, you might get cleared, but you'll have to pass their lung function tests.

Honestly, I get out of breath just walking up two flights of stairs to my apartment, so the military is a distant dream for me anyway! But seriously, with the level of running and physical drill they do, active asthma would make training an absolute nightmare.

With asthma, heavy cardio can trigger exercise-induced bronchospasms. In the military, you are expected to run miles with heavy packs. Focus on building your lung capacity through structured swimming and breathing exercises, but accept that military medical boards have very rigid rules for safety.

Don't trust random people on internet forums saying you can cure asthma with breathing tricks and join the army. Go to a government military hospital or consult an official recruitment medical officer to understand the exact guidelines.

While eating a clean, anti-inflammatory vegetarian diet can help reduce overall body inflammation and help with mild respiratory issues, it cannot cure asthma. Since military rules are very strict regarding chronic respiratory conditions, please consult their medical guidelines directly.
