Can u have strep without fever?

I have a terrible sore throat and swollen tonsils, but my temperature is normal. My girlfriend thinks it's strep. Is it possible to have strep without a fever, or does a fever always come with it?

Yes, you can absolutely have strep without a fever. If you have severe throat pain, difficulty swallowing, or swollen tonsils, please get a throat swab done at a clinic. Untreated strep can lead to other complications, so safety first.

My 8-year-old had a really sore throat last month but no fever at all, so I thought it was just a cold. When I took him to the pediatrician, she did a quick test and it was strep! Don't assume a lack of fever means it's not bacterial.

I have tried all kinds of warm water gargles, ginger tea, and honey, but if it is actually strep, those only give temporary relief. If your throat pain doesn't go away in 3 days, even without a fever, you need to see a doctor for proper medicine.

I am thoda confused about this, actually. If there is no fever, how do we distinguish between a normal viral sore throat and strep? Should I go for a test immediately or wait for a few days to see if it clears up on its own?

Hey, don't stress too much! Yes, you can get strep without running a fever, but it is easily treatable. Just go get it checked by a doc, get some antibiotics if needed, and take a couple of days off to rest up.

Yes, you can have a positive strep culture without a fever. Look inside your mouth with a phone flashlight; if you see tiny red spots on the roof of your mouth or white patches on your tonsils, it's highly likely to be strep. Get a doctor's prescription.

I totally get it, throat pain is so frustrating because you can't even swallow your own saliva comfortably. Yes, you can have strep without a fever. Don't suffer through the pain thinking it's nothing, just get it checked and feel better.

As a diabetic, any infection can fluctuate my blood sugar, even if there's no fever. I had strep last year with just throat pain. I had to be very careful with cough syrups as most of them have high sugar, so always ask your doctor for sugar-free options.

Sometimes the body's vital force fights the bacteria silently, so a fever does not manifest. Gentle humming breath (Bhramari Pranayama) and warm turmeric gargles can help soothe the throat tissues, but please consult a physician if the pain is severe.

Haan, it is definitely possible. My throat was burning last week but no fever at all. Please take care, drink warm water, and see a doctor if it doesn't get better soon.
