Can u get ovarian cancer after hysterectomy?

I had a total hysterectomy done about five years ago for uterine fibroids. My friend recently had an ovarian cancer scare, and it got me wondering. Is it still possible to get ovarian cancer even after having a hysterectomy?

Actually, it depends on whether your ovaries were removed during the surgery. If they only removed the uterus (partial hysterectomy), you can still get ovarian cancer. Even if ovaries were removed, there is a very rare chance of primary peritoneal cancer, so regular checkups are still key.

Going through a hysterectomy is emotionally draining, and the fear of cancer returning or developing elsewhere is so hard to live with. It is normal to feel scared. If you kept your ovaries, the risk remains, so please talk to your doctor to ease your mind.

I had my hysterectomy last year and I still get these random mild pains in my lower abdomen. I keep worrying if it could be ovarian issues. Has anyone else felt this kind of phantom pain or discomfort after their surgery?

I panicked so much thinking about this after my surgery! But my doctor explained that since my ovaries were completely removed, my risk is extremely low now. It brought me so much peace, so definitely ask your surgeon about what exactly was removed.

I just recovered from my hysterectomy three months ago. My doctor clearly told me they left the ovaries intact to prevent early menopause, which means I still need regular pelvic exams. Check your discharge summary to see if they did an oophorectomy or not.

My daughter had to undergo a partial hysterectomy at a young age. We were very worried about cancer risks later on, but her doctor explained that keeping the ovaries was better for her hormones, even though we have to be vigilant with regular checkups.

The simplest way to clear this doubt is to look at your hospital reports. If it says 'with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy', then your ovaries are gone and risk is near zero. If not, just ensure you go for your annual sonography as advised by your local gynecologist.

Honestly, at this age, keeping track of what body parts are still inside me is a task! But jokes apart, if they left your ovaries in to save you from hot flashes, yes, the risk remains. Best to ask your doctor instead of guessing.

Home remedies can't cure or prevent serious things like cancer, beta. If your ovaries were not removed during the operation, they can still have issues. Keep eating healthy and drinking warm turmeric milk for general healing, but do go to the clinic for your regular scans.

I think if they left the ovaries behind, there is still a chance. I always say, health worries shouldn't ruin our mood, but it's best to get a clear answer from your doctor so you can enjoy your food and life without constant stress!
