Can u get disability for arthritis?

My arthritis has gotten really bad over the past few years, especially in my knees and hands, making it hard to do daily tasks. I'm wondering if it's possible to apply for disability benefits for chronic arthritis. Does the government provide support for such conditions?

Yes, if it is extremely severe and restricts your movement completely. My mother went through the process of getting a government disability certificate due to advanced rheumatoid arthritis that deformed her joints. It requires extensive hospital records and evaluation by a government medical board.

Yes, but let's be realistic, it's not easy in India. Mild arthritis or general back pain won't qualify. You need to prove a high percentage of permanent physical impairment (usually 40% or more) certified by a state-authorized medical board. Get your hospital papers in perfect order first.

Yes, it is possible if the joint damage is very severe. I hope you find the support and medical care you need during this difficult time.

Severe arthritis can indeed lead to disability. Managing other conditions like diabetes alongside it is crucial because high blood sugar can worsen inflammation in the body. Make sure you are getting routine checkups and keeping both conditions monitored.

My aunt actually got a certificate because of her severe rheumatoid arthritis. She had to visit the government medical board multiple times for physical tests. It's a long process but definitely possible if the condition is really bad.

Look, it depends entirely on the severity. Simple age-related knee pain won't get you a disability certificate. But if it is a severe autoimmune condition like Rheumatoid Arthritis that has permanently damaged your joints, you can definitely apply. Go to a government civil hospital and ask for the disability board.

My granddad tried applying for this last year. Honestly, the government paperwork at the civil hospital is a total drag and they only approve it if the arthritis is super severe and has completely stopped you from walking or working. It takes a lot of patience.

Under Indian law (RPWD Act), severe arthritis can qualify for a disability certificate if it leads to locomotive disability. My orthopedic colleague mentioned that the impairment must be assessed to be at least 40% by a designated medical board. You will need detailed X-rays, clinical reports, and a formal evaluation.

Yes, but you must consult your specialist first to understand the extent of your joint damage. They can tell you if your condition meets the government criteria for locomotive disability. Don't try to self-assess, let a proper medical board do the evaluation.

Please don't wait until the pain becomes a permanent disability. I ignored my joint pain for years thinking it was just fatigue, and now I regret it every single day as my mobility is severely affected. Go get a proper rheumatologist checkup right now and start treatment before it's too late.
