Can u get asthma as an adult?

I've started noticing some breathlessness and wheezing, especially when I exercise or at night. I always thought asthma was something kids got. Can someone actually develop asthma for the first time as an adult?

Yes, adult-onset asthma is actually quite common, often triggered by environmental pollution, allergies, or occupational exposure. Since the symptoms can overlap with other respiratory conditions, it is highly recommended to visit a pulmonologist. They will perform a spirometry test to get an accurate diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with asthma at age 28, and honestly, I felt so broken and scared because I thought only kids got it. It was incredibly hard to accept that I needed an inhaler suddenly. Please know that your feelings are completely valid, but with the right treatment, you will feel completely normal again.

Yes, it definitely happens. I started noticing my running endurance drop on my fitness watch and tracked my breathing rate spiking, which led to my adult asthma diagnosis. Now I monitor the local AQI on my phone app before heading out for outdoor workouts, which helps me manage triggers easily.

Yes, you can develop it as an adult. Don't worry, it doesn't mean your fitness journey has to stop. Many athletes manage asthma perfectly with proper medication and warm-ups before lifting or cardio. Just stay active and focus on building lung stamina gradually.

When I had persistent coughing last winter, I went to Max Hospital and the specialist diagnosed me with adult-onset asthma. I asked him a dozen questions about inhalers and side effects, and he explained everything so clearly. Don't rely on internet searches, go to a good pulmonologist and clear all your doubts.

Yes, one can develop asthma later in life due to stress and pollution. Along with your doctor's prescribed inhalers, practicing gentle pranayama like Anulom Vilom daily has helped me tremendously in improving my lung capacity and keeping my breathing calm.
