Can type ii diabetes be reversed?

My doctor told me that with proper diet and exercise, Type II diabetes can often be managed very well. I was wondering if Type II diabetes can actually be reversed completely in some cases.

Absolutely, putting it into remission is very possible through lifestyle. Focus on strength training to build muscle sensitivity to insulin and cut down on simple carbs. It takes hard work but your body will thank you.

I am quite new to this and trying to learn for my mother. Does reversal mean she can stop taking her daily medicines completely after some time, or does she still need to keep checking her sugar levels forever?

My physician clearly explained that the correct medical term is 'remission' rather than permanent reversal. If you reduce visceral fat and keep HbA1c below 6.5 without meds for three months, it is considered remission. It requires continuous clean lifestyle maintenance.

My mother always tells us to use curry leaves and methi to keep sugar low, which does help. However, for actual remission, we must trust the doctor's tests and proper advice on lifestyle changes to be completely safe.

A daily 45-minute brisk walk after meals has worked wonders for my father's sugar readings. If your doctor allows physical activity, start with light walks and yoga, it really helps the body process glucose much better.
