Can type 2 diabetes go into dka?

I always thought DKA was something only Type 1 diabetics had to worry about. But recently, a family member with Type 2 diabetes was admitted for DKA. Can Type 2 diabetes patients actually go into DKA, and what causes it?

Arre, humein lagta tha DKA sirf Type 1 walo ko hota hai, par badti umar mein ye Type 2 walo ko bhi satane lagta hai. Especially if we get a heavy infection or stop taking our tablets properly. Safai aur parhez hi humein bachayega bhaisaab!

Yes, Type 2 diabetes can lead to DKA, though it is rare. It typically happens under extreme stress, severe infection, or absolute insulin deficiency.

Agree with everyone. If you have Type 2 and feel extremely weak, nauseous, or have rapid breathing, seek immediate medical attention as it could be DKA.

I ignored high fever and vomiting last year, thinking it was just a viral infection, but my sugar was sky-high and I ended up in the ICU with mild DKA. Please don't ignore severe symptoms. Get your urine ketones and sugar checked immediately if you feel very sick.

Oh, DKA sounds really scary! It makes me realize that ignoring my sugar levels for extra biryani and sweets can actually lead to serious hospital emergencies. Better to control those cravings and stay hydrated guys.

While DKA is uncommon in Type 2, severe dehydration or extreme physical trauma can trigger it. Keeping your body active with regular workouts and staying well-hydrated is crucial to prevent such extreme glycemic spikes.
