Can twins sleep in the same crib?

We are expecting twins soon and are in the process of setting up their nursery. Space is a bit limited in our apartment, so we were wondering if it's safe for newborn twins to sleep together in the same crib initially?

Honestly I kept my twin girls in the same crib for the first two months because it was so much easier to manage. But soon they started kicking and waking each other up constantly. We had to shift them to separate cribs quite early just to get some decent sleep.

In our times we used to keep babies together and they slept peacefully listening to each other's heartbeat. Don't stress too much about setting up two fancy cribs right away. Just make sure the mattress is firm and there are no loose sheets or heavy blankets inside.

Please be careful with this because pediatricians generally advise against keeping two babies in the same crib due to the risk of accidental suffocation. It is much safer to consult your pediatrician during the next vaccination visit. They will give you the safest layout guidelines for your nursery.

Practically speaking, putting them in one crib saves space and time initially, but it is a short-term fix. Once they start rolling around at 3 or 4 months, they will disturb each other's sleep cycles, which means you get zero rest. Better to invest in two separate cribs or a good bassinet from day one to build a proper routine.

It is okay in the very beginning when they don't move much, but safe sleep guidelines usually advise separate spaces to avoid any rolling accidents. While you are busy managing two babies, make sure you take some time out for short walks to keep your own energy levels up. It really helps with the parenting stress.

I totally get it, handling twins is double the work and you want to keep them close to make night feedings easier. Co-bedding is very common in the initial weeks. Just keep an eye on them and make sure they don't overheat or roll over onto each other.
