Can tums give you kidney stones?

I suffer from heartburn quite often and usually take Tums for relief, sometimes even daily. My brother, who had kidney stones once, warned me that taking too many Tums can cause them. Is this a real risk I should be concerned about?

I completely understand the anxiety of dealing with kidney pain, it is absolute torture. Tums has calcium carbonate, and too much calcium can definitely lead to stones. Please don't overuse them like I did; it's really painful to go through.

Since I have to watch my diet for diabetes, I also look closely at any antacids I take. Eating too many Tums adds a lot of calcium to your system, which can form stones if you don't drink enough water. Better to manage acidity with light, timely meals.

Actually, yes yaar. My cousin used to take them daily for acidity and ended up with a small stone. Tums is full of calcium, so if you take too much, it causes issues. Switch to normal warm water or ask a doc for a better antacid.

I totally get it, dealing with constant acidity is so frustrating that we just grab whatever tablet is nearby. But yes, Tums can cause calcium stones if overdone. Try to find the root cause of your acidity with a doctor instead of self-treating daily.

Don't panic, taking one or two occasionally for acidity won't do anything. But if you are popping them daily like candy, then yes, the extra calcium can build up into kidney stones. Just cut back on them and drink plenty of water, okay?
