Can too much protein cause thyroid problems?

I'm on a high-protein diet to lose weight and gain muscle, eating a lot of chicken, lentils, and protein bars. My mother has thyroid issues, and I recently read online that too much protein can affect your thyroid. Is there any truth to this?

Actually, too much protein alone doesn't directly cause thyroid issues, but soy protein can sometimes interfere with thyroid medication.

For busy people, relying too much on soy-based protein bars or shakes can sometimes affect thyroid function, especially if you have existing thyroid issues. Just stick to balanced meals and get a regular blood test.

My endocrinologist mentioned that excess protein doesn't directly cause thyroid disease. However, soy protein in high amounts can block thyroid hormone absorption, especially if you are taking thyroid medicine, so keep a gap of a few hours.

No need to worry! Normal protein won't hurt your thyroid at all. Just enjoy your paneer and dals in moderate amounts! 😊

I can only share that when I went on an extreme high-protein keto diet, my thyroid levels fluctuated slightly. Once I returned to a normal balanced diet, my reports went back to normal.
