Can too much milk cause kidney stones?

My family insists on me drinking at least 2 glasses of milk daily for calcium, but I don't really like it. I heard somewhere that too much milk can cause kidney stones. Is there any truth to this or is it just an old wives' tale?

I used to drink three glasses of milk a day thinking it was great for my bones, but then I got a mild kidney stone scare. My doctor told me that moderate calcium from milk is actually good, but drinking excessive milk can sometimes cause issues. Balance is key!

Instead of cutting out milk completely, it is much cheaper to get a basic urine and kidney function test done for 500-800 rupees at a local lab. That way you know exactly what your calcium levels are before spending on expensive treatments or making drastic diet changes.

Please don't listen to random internet advice telling you to completely stop dairy. Moderate dietary calcium actually binds to oxalates in your stomach and prevents stones. Verify this with a urologist before modifying your diet based on rumors.

One glass of milk a day is more than enough for adults. If you are worried about stones, just make sure you are drinking plenty of plain water and limiting extra salty foods. Simple lifestyle habits work best.

Don't worry too much! Having a normal amount of milk is totally fine and actually helps prevent stones by binding oxalates in the gut. Just stay hydrated and don't drink buckets of milk everyday! 🥛✨

Honestly, I drink tea and milk shakes all day and haven't had issues, but my dad was told by his doctor to cut back on heavy dairy when he got stones. Guess it depends on your body, so better to be safe and drink tons of water.
