Can too much magnesium cause kidney stones?

I drink a lot of mineral water throughout the day, and also take magnesium supplements as part of my fitness routine. I'm worried about kidney stones as my father had them. Can too much magnesium increase the risk of kidney stones?

Actually, magnesium is usually known to help *prevent* calcium oxalate kidney stones, not cause them. But if you have existing kidney issues, taking too much can overload your kidneys. My tip is to always balance it with plenty of water and never take high doses without a doctor's nod.

Hey, don't stress too much about this! Magnesium is actually a good guy when it comes to stones, but yes, too much of anything can trouble your tummy or kidneys. Just stick to natural sources and stay super hydrated, you'll be totally fine!

I was worrying about this exact same thing last week because I started magnesium for sleep! I read that it actually prevents stones, but my anxiety still makes me hesitate. Let me know if you find any solid answers, hoping you feel better!

Normally, magnesium helps in preventing stone formation, but if your kidneys aren't filtering well, excess magnesium can build up in your blood. Stop self-prescribing supplements and get your kidney function test (KFT) done first.

As a diabetic, I have to be very careful with my kidneys. Magnesium is good for insulin sensitivity, but since diabetes puts extra load on kidneys, I never take supplements without checking with my doctor first. Always get your kidney health verified.

Don't worry unnecessarily. Magnesium usually stops calcium from binding with oxalate, which actually reduces the risk of stones. Just make sure you are drinking enough water and not overdoing the supplements, okay? Take care.

In a balanced vegetarian diet, we get plenty of magnesium from nuts, seeds, and leafy greens, which is completely safe. Taking heavy synthetic magnesium supplements can sometimes upset your digestive and kidney balance, so stick to food sources as much as possible.
