Can tonsillitis cause ear pain?

My son has tonsillitis, and he's also complaining about his ear hurting. I remember my doctor telling me once that throat infections can affect ears. Can tonsillitis actually cause ear pain in children?

Oh, absolutely. Last month when I had tonsillitis, I couldn't even enjoy my favorite butter chicken because every swallow felt like a needle poking inside my ear. It is super annoying but very common. Soft, warm khichdi was my savior.

I think it is quite common because of shared nerve pathways between the throat and ears. I experienced this during my last throat infection. Since we need to be careful with inflammation, it's best to consult an ENT doctor to ensure the infection isn't spreading to the middle ear.

Haan, bilkul ho sakta hai! Gale aur kaan ki nasein connected hoti hain na. Jab bhi mujhe tonsils hote hain, mera kaan bhi dukhne lagta hai. Garm paani mein namak daal ke kulla karo, bahut aaram milega.

Yes, referred pain to the ear is very common during throat infections. You can sip on warm ginger-honey water or haldi doodh to soothe the swelling. However, if the ear pain becomes severe or you develop a high fever, please see a doctor immediately.

Haan babu, mere bete ko bhi gale ke dukhne ke sath kaan mein bada tej dard hota tha. Hum soche kaan kharab hai, par doctor babu bole gale ki sujan ki wajah se hai. Aap chinta mat karo, unhe dikha lo, dawa se thik ho jayega.

Actually, yes yaar. It is called referred pain. When the tonsils get inflamed, the nerve pathway also carries the pain signals to your ear, making it feel like an ear infection. Best is to visit an ENT doc to get the right antibiotics or spray.
