Can tmj cause sleep apnea?

My wife complains a lot about my snoring and says I often stop breathing in my sleep. I also have a clicking jaw and sometimes wake up with jaw pain. Can TMJ disorder actually contribute to or cause sleep apnea?

Actually, a misaligned jaw from TMJ can narrow your airway at night, which might contribute to obstructive sleep apnea. Keeping a healthy weight and working on your posture helps, but you really need to get a proper sleep study done to see what is happening.

Ji, hamare yahan log isko simple samajhte hain, par jaw ki khichawat se saans lene mein takleef ho sakti hai raat ko. Aap bilkul laparwahi mat kijiye. Kisi bade doctor ko dikha lijiye jo iska sahi upchar bata sake.

Since I manage diabetes, sleep quality is critical for my blood sugar control, and yes, jaw misalignment can affect breathing. If you are snoring heavily or waking up gasping, please don't ignore it. Get your TMJ and a possible sleep study checked by a specialist doctor.

They are definitely linked; a backward-positioned jaw can block your airway when you lie down. I had to get a custom oral appliance from a specialist dentist which resolved both my TMJ pain and mild sleep apnea. Skip the random fixes and see a TMJ specialist directly.

Yeah bro, my dentist told me my narrow jaw was causing both my TMJ clicks and making me snore like a truck at night. It is basically an airway issue. Definitely get a doctor to check it out before it ruins your sleep completely.

At my age, I have learned that neglecting sleep and jaw pain leads to bigger health issues later on. Don't take breathing difficulties lightly, beta. Go to a good hospital, get a proper checkup done, and follow the doctor's advice.

In my case, treating my TMJ with a dental splint actually helped improve my nighttime breathing and daytime fatigue. I can't say if it causes apnea for everyone, but getting my jaw checked certainly helped my sleep quality immensely.

I am also experiencing jaw clicking and I often wake up tired. I didn't know these two could be connected. Does anyone know if a regular dentist can diagnose this, or do we have to see a bigger specialist?

As someone who works in healthcare, I can tell you that TMJ and sleep apnea often go hand-in-hand because of how the lower jaw is positioned. If you are feeling excessively sleepy during the day, please get a sleep study done. Your doctor can help you find a suitable oral appliance.

To keep it brief: yes, jaw alignment issues can narrow your throat passage, contributing to sleep apnea. Don't waste time trying various pillows online. Book an appointment with an ENT or a sleep medicine specialist to get a definitive diagnosis.

I tried all kinds of steam inhalation and special posture exercises, but home remedies can't fix a structural jaw issue that blocks your breathing. It is very exhausting to deal with. Please see a proper doctor who can evaluate both your jaw joint and your breathing patterns.

My wife says my snoring is loud enough to wake up the neighbors, and my jaw always hurts in the morning! Turns out TMJ can indeed mess with your breathing airway. Don't wait until you get kicked out of the bedroom like me, go see a sleep specialist!

My smartwatch kept showing low blood oxygen levels at night, which led me to discover the link between my TMJ jaw-clenching and sleep apnea. The retroverted jaw position can physically obstruct your airway. Track your sleep patterns and share the data with a sleep specialist.

A full sleep study and custom TMJ appliances can be quite expensive in private clinics. I suggest checking government or trust hospitals first, as they often have sleep labs that do these tests at a fraction of the cost. Do get it checked though, health comes first.
