Can tmj cause ear pain?

For the past few weeks, I've had this persistent dull ache in my ear, but the ENT said there's no infection. My dentist suggested it might be related to my jaw. Can TMJ disorder be a cause of ear pain?

Yes, absolutely! I spent three weeks visiting ENT doctors thinking I had a massive ear infection, but my ears were perfectly clean. It turned out to be TMJ from clenching my teeth at night. Once I got a mouth guard, the ear pain completely vanished.

At my age, my jaw joints creak louder than my bedroom door! Yes, TMJ absolutely shoots pain straight into the ear. I spent days putting ear drops for no reason before the dentist told me it was just my jaw acting up. Get it checked so you don't waste money on unnecessary drops!

Tension in our minds often manifests as tightness in our jaws, causing pain that reaches our ears. Keep your breathing deep and let go of any stress you are carrying. Please consult a doctor to help heal the physical joint gently.

Oh, I completely panicked when my ear started hurting, thinking it was some permanent hearing damage! But my doc reassured me that it is just referred pain from the TMJ joint. It is actually very common and nothing to be terrified about, just get a simple checkup done.

Chewing tough or hard vegetarian foods like raw carrots can flare up your TMJ and worsen that ear pain. Try sticking to soft khichdi, soups, and boiled veggies for a few days to give your jaw some rest, and do consult your doctor for a proper plan.

My mother used to apply warm sesame oil near the ears for such aches, which helps soothe the muscles. But TMJ ear pain is closely linked to how your teeth meet, so getting a proper diagnosis from a dental specialist is always the wisest choice.

Haan, it definitely does! The jaw joint is located right next to your ear canal, so any swelling there feels exactly like an earache, na. Don't worry too much, but do visit a dentist who specializes in TMJ to get it sorted out.

I literally lose sleep worrying about these things, and when my ear started aching, I thought the worst. But TMJ is famous for causing ear pain because the nerves are so close together. I really hope you feel better soon, maybe try a warm compress on the jaw to calm the nerves?

Applying a warm compress or doing very gentle jaw stretches can bring a lot of relief to that ear pain. However, since the ear is a very sensitive organ, you must see a doctor to rule out any actual infection before starting any home remedies.

Don't stress, this is actually one of the most common symptoms of TMJ. Because the jaw joint is right beside the ear, the pain radiates very easily. Avoid chewing hard foods for a few days, and let a dentist or ENT take a quick look to guide you properly.
