Can tirzepatide cause kidney problems?

My friend told me to be careful with any new medications because some can affect your kidneys. I've been prescribed tirzepatide and I'm a bit worried. Is it possible for tirzepatide to cause kidney problems?

While tirzepatide doesn't directly damage kidneys, severe dehydration from side effects like vomiting or diarrhea can strain them. It is very important to stay hydrated. Always consult your doctor to monitor your kidney function through regular blood tests while on this medication.

I completely understand the anxiety you are feeling right now, read so many scary things online and couldn't sleep. Just know you are not alone in worrying about this. Talk to your doctor openly about these fears so they can reassure you and keep a close check.

I agree with the others. Just make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day to protect your kidneys.

If you are on tirzepatide, proper hydration is key, especially if you are working out and sweating a lot. Lack of fluids puts a lot of stress on your kidneys when taking active meds. Keep your water intake high and eat clean, whole foods to support your body.

Please do not ignore any signs like reduced urination or back pain. I once ignored mild symptoms thinking they would go away and ended up with a severe infection that took months to cure. Get your kidney function tests (KFT) done immediately if you feel anything is off.

I can only share that during my time on this medication, my doctor made sure to monitor my creatinine levels regularly. I didn't face any kidney issues, but I was extremely strict about drinking at least 3 liters of water daily. Definitely ask your doctor what is safe for your body.

At my age, I have seen many medications come and go, and the key is always moderation and regular checkups. Don't let the internet scare you too much, beta. Just eat simple ghar ka khana, drink your water, and let your doctor do the regular blood work to keep you safe.
