Can tinnitus cause sleep apnea?

I've had ringing in my ears (tinnitus) for a while now, and my wife says I've started snoring very loudly and even stop breathing sometimes. Can tinnitus be linked to sleep apnea, or is it just a coincidence?

Honestly, tinnitus wont directly cause sleep apnea, but that constant ringing makes sleeping so tough. I used to keep a white noise machine or even a slow fan running nearby to drown the sound, and it really helped me drift off. If you are having actual breathing issues at night though, pls don't rely only on these hacks and tell a doc.

Yaar, my late-night snacking and tea habits already mess up my sleep, but if there is ringing in the ears too, it is a double hit. Tinnitus doesn't physically block your airway to cause sleep apnea, but the stress of it ruins your sleep cycles. Better to cut down on caffeine post 6 PM and get it checked by an ENT.

Haha, as if sleeping normally in this heat wasn't hard enough, now we have internal background music too! But seriously, tinnitus doesn't make you stop breathing like sleep apnea does. It just makes you want to throw your pillow at the wall. Get a doctor to check both, otherwise you will be awake counting sheep forever.

I have dealt with both and they are actually quite different issues, though they make each other worse. Tinnitus is that annoying ringing, while sleep apnea is about your breathing stopping. When I got my apnea treated with a machine, my overall stress came down and the tinnitus became much more bearable. Definitely see an ENT and a sleep specialist.

Please do not ignore this or assume they are just minor things. While tinnitus itself doesn't cause sleep apnea, sleep apnea is a serious medical issue that needs a proper sleep study. Please book an appointment with a specialist doctor as soon as possible to get a clear diagnosis.
