Can thyroid issues cause depression?

Lately, I've been feeling extremely low, uninterested in things I usually enjoy, and constantly sad. My sister, who has a thyroid condition, mentioned she felt similar before diagnosis. Can thyroid issues contribute to or cause depression?

Haan na, thyroid level up-down hone se mood bilkul kharab ho jata hai. I used to feel very low and sad without any reason, like depression. Once the medicine started, I slowly started feeling like myself again, so don't worry.

When my wife was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, she used to sit quietly and feel very depressed for months. We didn't understand it back then, but the doctor explained it was just the hormones. With time and correct medicine, she got completely fine, so have patience.

My thyroid made me so sad I was crying over daily soap operas which I don't even watch! It really plays tricks on your brain. Just get your levels checked, take the magic pill, and your mood will stop doing these crazy gymnastics.

My sister went through a very low phase when her thyroid levels were high. My mother made her sit in the morning sun and do warm oil massages, which gave her comfort, but consulting the endocrinologist was the main thing that helped. It is a hormonal issue, so please get medical help.

I went through this exact same thing last year. I thought I was failing in life and getting depressed, but it was actually just my thyroid slowing everything down, including my mood. Please don't be hard on yourself, get a blood test done and talk to a doctor.

A sluggish thyroid blocks the flow of energy in the body, leading to heavy feelings and sadness. Along with your prescribed medical treatment, try practicing daily pranayama and light yoga. It brings a lot of peace and helps balance the mind.

If you are feeling depressed and suspect thyroid, go for a basic thyroid profile test first. You can easily book it online from labs like Lal PathLabs or Thyrocare for around 300 to 400 rupees. Finding the issue early will save you a lot of medical expenses later.

Since thyroid hormones regulate brain function and neurotransmitters, low levels can mimic clinical depression very closely. Many people take antidepressants when they actually just need thyroid medication. Check your TSH levels first before starting any psychiatric treatment.

I dealt with severe thyroid-induced depression for two years. My tip is to track your symptoms, take your medicine strictly on an empty stomach, and don't skip your follow-up tests. Once your dosage is correct, the dark clouds in your mind will clear up.

Yes, thyroid definitely causes chemical imbalances that lead to depressive feelings. Don't waste time trying to figure it out yourself. Book an appointment with a specialist this weekend and get your blood work done so you can address it systematically.
