Can thyroid disease cause depression?

I've been struggling with severe depression for a while, and my mood swings are intense. My therapist suggested that my thyroid levels should be checked. Can thyroid disease actually be a cause or a contributing factor to depression?

Haan, severe thyroid issues, especially hypothyroidism, can absolutely cause depression, brain fog, and constant sadness. I have seen this in so many people in our community. Please consult your endocrinologist and get your blood levels tested soon.

Yes, thyroid can definitely mess with your mood and make you feel incredibly low and depressed. During those times, even my favourite desserts couldn't cheer me up. Definitely get your levels checked by a doctor, it's not just in your head!

Oh, when my thyroid went out of control, I used to feel so low and cried for no reason. I tried herbal teas and meditation, which helped me relax, but the heavy feeling only cleared once my doctor set my correct medicine dosage.

Dealing with PCOS and thyroid together has taught me how heavily hormones affect our mental health and mood. It can certainly cause depressive feelings. Please talk to a specialist to get a proper evaluation of your hormonal health.

Yes, there is a strong link between hypothyroidism and clinical depression because thyroid hormones directly impact brain neurotransmitters. It is very important to consult a physician to check your hormone levels before assuming it is purely psychological.

Honestly, I went through a phase of unexplained sadness and lack of energy, and I had no idea it was my thyroid. Once my doctor adjusted my daily empty-stomach tablet, my mood improved drastically within a month.
