Can thyroid cause tongue problems?

I've noticed some unusual changes in my tongue, it sometimes feels swollen and has strange indentations. My friend, who has hypothyroidism, mentioned she also had tongue issues. Can thyroid problems really affect the tongue like this?

Yes, thyroid issues can sometimes cause a swollen or dry tongue. My aunt suggested rinsing with warm salt water for temporary relief, which is very soothing, but you must consult your doctor to check your thyroid levels properly.

My daughter had a sluggish thyroid and kept complaining that her tongue felt too big for her mouth and had teeth marks on the sides. Her doctor explained it was due to fluid retention from hypothyroidism. Once her thyroid medicine was set, her tongue went back to normal.

Haan, a swollen tongue, also known as macroglossia, is a classic but lesser-known symptom of severe hypothyroidism. It happens due to fluid buildup. It's best to get a fresh thyroid profile test and show it to your physician soon.

I was literally dealing with a dry, burning tongue and scalloped edges just a few months ago. I had no idea it was because of my thyroid levels dropping. My endocrinologist adjusted my daily dose, and my tongue feels perfectly normal now.

Oh, thyroid-related tongue swelling is so annoying, it makes tasting my favourite spicy street foods so difficult! Yes, it can cause dryness and swelling. Definitely get your thyroid checked so you can get back to eating peacefully.

Same here! I used to get this weird, dry, burning sensation on my tongue and thought I was allergic to something. Turns out it was just my thyroid acting up. Do see a doctor, they will easily fix it with proper thyroid pills.

My tongue feels slightly swollen and has teeth impressions on the sides, and it is making me super anxious. Is anyone else experiencing this with their thyroid? I am going to book an appointment with my general physician tomorrow.
