Can thyroid affect your period?

My periods have become quite erratic in the last few months, sometimes heavy, sometimes very light. My gynecologist mentioned she might check my thyroid levels, so can thyroid conditions really have an impact on your period?

Yes, it absolutely can. I ignored my irregular periods for a long time thinking it was just stress, but it turned out to be severe hypothyroidism which eventually caused other health complications. Please don't delay and see a gynecologist or endocrinologist soon.

When my thyroid levels shot up, my periods became incredibly heavy and would last for almost ten days. It was exhausting and terrifying at first. Once my doctor adjusted my medication dose, my cycle returned to its regular pattern.

Instead of worrying and searching online, just book a basic thyroid profile test at any standard lab. Once you have the TSH report in hand, show it to a gynecologist. It's a very common issue and can be managed easily with cheap, daily tablets.

My sister was dealing with really erratic periods and mood swings last year. She finally got her thyroid checked on our family doc's advice, and her TSH was super high. Once she started taking the daily pill, her cycle got totally sorted out.

I am experiencing missed periods and someone suggested it might be thyroid. I am a bit scared to go to the doctor alone. Does the thyroid test require fasting, and is it a simple blood test?
