Can the er do anything for tooth pain?

My wisdom tooth pain is just unbearable, and it's late night so no dental clinics are open. My friend suggested going to the ER, but I'm not sure if they can actually do anything for tooth pain there. What do you think?

I am not completely sure about every hospital, but the ER usually only helps with pain relief and reducing any severe infection or swelling. They don't do root canals or extractions there. It is best to go there if the pain is too severe, and then book a dentist appointment.

Beta, if the pain is making you cry and your cheek is swollen, please go to the hospital emergency immediately. They will give you medicine to calm it down so you can sleep. There is no need to suffer all night, go get some relief.

Unless you want a medical doctor trying to use regular pliers on your tooth, the ER is only good for temporary painkillers! Jokes apart, they will just stop the throbbing for the night. You'll still have to face the dentist's chair tomorrow.

Actually, I have a very bad toothache tonight and I was thinking of going to the nearby hospital. Do they charge a lot in the ER just to give a painkiller, or is it better to wait till the morning dentist opens? Please help.

Yes, they can give you temporary pain relief injections or antibiotics. You will still need to visit a dentist for the actual treatment.

The ER can only give you temporary relief with painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs to bring down the swelling. They don't have dental equipment to fix the tooth. Just get the pain under control there so you don't miss your workouts, and hit the dentist next day.

Yes, they can give you pain relief medicine or an injection, but they cannot perform dental procedures.

Actually, the ER is only equipped for medical emergencies, not dental procedures. They can prescribe pain meds or antibiotics to manage the symptoms. I suggest searching for a 24/7 dental clinic on your health app instead, they can actually treat the tooth.
