Can teens get kidney stones?

My 16-year-old son has been having severe pain in his side and back. The doctor mentioned kidney stones as a possibility, which surprised us. Do teenagers commonly get kidney stones these days?

Yes, they totally can, and it is so painful. My younger brother got a small kidney stone when he was just seventeen because he barely drank any water and survived on spicy chips. Please make sure they keep a water bottle handy and sip throughout the day.

My son had a 4mm stone when he was sixteen, and it was heartbreaking to see him in pain. The pediatric urologist told us that high salt intake from packaged foods and dehydration are the main culprits. We cut down on instant noodles and made sure he drank at least 2-3 liters of water daily, which helped pass it.

I literally just recovered from a kidney stone last month, and trust me, the back pain is absolute hell. Even teens can get it if they drink too many colas and not enough plain water. If they are complaining of sharp pain on one side of the lower back, get an ultrasound done immediately.

Yes, youngsters get them quite often these days. My mother always suggests barley water and coconut water to help flush out the system, which is great, but please consult a urologist first. A proper scan is necessary to see the size of the stone before trying any home remedies.

I panicked so much when my teenage niece got sudden severe stomach pain, thinking it was something fatal, but it turned out to be a small kidney stone. It's actually quite common and very manageable with proper hydration and medication. Just get an ultrasound done to be sure and don't stress too much.

Please don't take this lightly or wait for it to pass on its own. My cousin ignored his kidney pain until it caused a severe urinary tract infection and kidney swelling. If the teen has any fever, vomiting, or blood in their urine along with the pain, go to a doctor or hospital immediately.

Haan yaar, bilkul ho sakta hai kidney stone teens ko bhi. Aaj kal ka khan-paan hi aisa hai na, cold drinks aur junk food sabse zyada problem karte hain. Bas unko bolo paani acche se piyein aur pain zyada ho toh doc ko dikha lo bina delay kiye.

Of course they can. Our urban diets are loaded with sodium, and teenagers barely drink enough water between classes and coaching. Skip the carbonated drinks and energy drinks completely, and get an ultrasound done if there is persistent lower back or abdominal pain.

Yes, dietary habits play a huge role in kidney stones even for teenagers. High intake of spinach, tomatoes with seeds, and excess salt can sometimes contribute if they aren't drinking enough water. A balanced, low-sodium vegetarian diet with plenty of fluids is very important to prevent this.

Hey, don't worry too much, but yes, teens can get kidney stones. Just check if they are drinking enough water throughout the day. Take them to a family doctor for a quick physical checkup just to rule out anything else, and make sure they rest well.
