Can't swallow throat pain?

My throat has been hurting for two days, and now it's so painful that swallowing anything, even water, is a huge struggle. It feels like there's a lump, and the pain is constant. Could this be a strep throat, or something else?

Try doing warm water gargles with a pinch of salt and turmeric three times a day. It is the cheapest and most effective way to reduce throat swelling. Avoid cold water entirely and drink warm water throughout the day.

Haan na, when throat pain is so bad that even swallowing saliva hurts, it is highly irritating. Try having hot ginger-tulsi tea, it gives so much relief. If it still doesn't get better in two days, do consult a local doctor.

Please be careful if the pain is severe and you have a high fever. I once ignored a severe throat pain which turned out to be a peritonsillar abscess that blocked my breathing. If you can't even swallow liquids, please see an ENT doctor immediately.

Instead of going to a big private hospital and paying a 1000 rupee consultation fee, go to a local general practitioner first. A basic 200 rupee consultation will get you the right antibiotic or painkiller prescription. It is a much more practical way to handle a common throat infection.

I went to a specialist at Fortis when my throat pain made it impossible to eat. They did a quick swab test to check for strep throat and gave me proper antibiotics. Ask your doctor clearly if it is viral or bacterial before taking random medicines.
